Bio
Bonghani Frank is a qualified textile and pattern designer based in Johannesburg, whose work is deeply rooted in African culture, heritage, and visual storytelling. His practice celebrates the continent’s rich traditions, artefacts, symbols, and craftsmanship—brought to life through bold colour palettes, rhythmic motifs, and timeless pattern languages.
With strong expertise in textile design and CAD programs, Bonghani seamlessly navigates both full-time and freelance work, producing designs that move fluidly between printed and woven applications. His patterns merge tradition with contemporary innovation, drawing inspiration from indigenous art, traditional fabrics, ancestral markings, and the visual rhythms of everyday cultural life.
Each design he creates carries a narrative, honouring the past while imagining the future of African-inspired design. Bonghani’s overarching aim is not only to beautify spaces but also to preserve and reinterpret cultural memory through textile art that resonates across generations.
