Bio

Ruramai ‘Rudo’ Musekiwa is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Her debut textile collection, African Odyssey, marks her expansion into textile printing—translating her bold, symbolic, and culturally rich visuals onto fabric. Bold silhouette portraits are a hallmark of her illustrated work, serving as striking statement pieces in both mural and wallpaper applications. Inspired by the architectural elegance of Dakar, Senegal, the collection embraces the sweeping arches and half-circle motifs that define both historic and contemporary structures. A key feature of this body of work is Ndebele Homage, a deconstructed interpretation of Ndebele artistry that pays tribute to Dr. Esther Mahlangu and the enduring legacy of Ndebele design. Rudo’s deep appreciation for Africa’s vibrancy and cultural diversity is woven throughout her visual language.

Her artistic journey spans multiple disciplines, from fine art and illustration to digital design, art direction, and music composition. Grounded in portraiture, activism, and symbolism, her work serves as a celebration of African identity and untold narratives.

Her most acclaimed body of work, the Sibahle Poster Series, honors extraordinary African women and garnered widespread global recognition as a digital campaign. Other career highlights include contributing illustrated works to The Birth of a Nation’s official tie-in book and designing the branding illustration for Global Citizen’s Mandela 100 campaign.

Having collaborated with both local and international creative teams, Rudo’s exposure to diverse artistic processes has expanded her creative perspective. She believes in the transformative power of art to reshape narratives and ignite meaningful social change, particularly within the African context.

At the heart of her work lies a deep love for storytelling, a reverence for heritage, and an unwavering commitment to her craft.
